Why I Decided to Start Blogging

Welcome back! Before I jump into this post, I just wanted to thank you for reading my blog. Whether this is the first post you’re coming across, or you’re an avid follower of my blog, thanks for stopping by and reading my content. It means the world to me to know that people enjoy engaging on here. It’s only been a few months since I started this blog… I wouldn’t have ever expected the number of people coming across it, so thank you so much for reading. I hope you enjoy this post, as it’s one of my more personal ones.

I started this blog and hopped right into the content because I was so excited to do so. I didn’t take the time to introduce myself and let you know why I decided to start this blog, some of my motivations behind it, and my passion for why I enjoy blogging. I want to let you get to know me a little better, so I am sharing my journey with blogging, why I decided to start blogging in the first place, and my ultimate goals as of now with my blog for the coming years. This is not typical content for my blog, but I hope you enjoy the read!

My Journey With Blogging

I have a confession to make – I created quite a few blogs on WordPress before finally taking it seriously and buying a URL. I wrote drafts of posts in Google Docs and tried to think of a ‘perfect’ niche for my blog. But as time passed and I didn’t post anything publicly, I realized my perfectionism was getting in the way of my dreams. I could write all I want, but I never felt like my posts were worth posting. I never felt good enough to be a part of the blogging community. What I didn’t realize is, you don’t have to be perfect to run a blog. You don’t have to have a picturesque life, or the perfect job, or the best travel experience, to run a successful blog. I know everything about blogging says you have to have a niche, but you don’t need to follow a perfect formula to be happy with your results from your blog. It’s all up to how you want to run it and ultimately, it’s up to you being your most authentic self.

When I started this blog, I decided to go with a pretty literal title… For someone who majored in Public Relations and Advertising in college, I am pretty terrible when it comes to branding. So why NYC-Lifestyle? I live in NYC and moved here pretty recently, but I feel like the city represents a key theme in my blog – a little bit of everything, with it being a lifestyle blog. And I wanted my blog to be an authentic reflection of myself and my life. the branding is still a work in progress, and I plan to take some courses offered by fellow bloggers on branding for your blog but again, it’s all a work in progress. That’s the beauty of blogging, it doesn’t have to be perfect, just authentically you.

Why Blogging?

So, why blogging? I could’ve pursued Instagram, TikTok, or any other platform to become a content creator. But I love writing. And being an introvert, I often think my thoughts come off way better through written words than verbally. It gives me time to really exercise my passion for writing, which is something I don’t get from my full-time job. This blog is a nice escape to experience what I really love to do without the stresses of working in an office. And that’s something I cherish about running a blog.

Blogging is also a wonderful way to create a community all to your own without depending on a platform’s algorithm. Often Instagram will implement changes on their platform or changes in their algorithm, and that makes being a content creator on there that much more difficult. I like the blogging community much better and think it suits me best! I have nothing against content creators on other platforms – I honestly admire the creators I follow on Instagram because it’s not something I would be particularly good at.

My Goals With This Blog

My goal for this blog is pretty simple: I want to help you create the most beautiful life you can. Whether that’s sharing challenges I’ve faced and the advice I have to follow it or sharing beauty reccos to help you find the perfect products for your skin type, I want to help you achieve the most beautiful life you can. This applies whether you live in New York City or a small town in Greece – the content can be applicable to anyone, anywhere, to help them achieve the most beautiful life they can.

Long term, I’m hoping to build out my content a bit more (maybe add a travel section?) and (hopefully!) land some partnerships for beauty brands. I started this blog with the intent to write fashion content, but I have not really been into it as much lately. This is something I am also hoping to build out as time progresses and hopefully partner with some great brands to share with all of you. Another item on my list is to build out my email blasts to be a bit more complex than just the typical WordPress email blasts you get from every post I make. I used to write a newsletter in college and always wanted to get back into writing one, so building that out for you all is another hope I have with my blog. Ultimately, I hope my readers are getting something useful out of my content and are enjoying their time on my blog. If there is anything you’d like to see from me in terms of content or email newsletters, or anything else, let me know!

I hope you enjoyed reading this post that gives you a deeper look at my motivations for blogging and my goals for this blog in the future. If you have any suggestions on what I could be doing better, please feel free to leave them in the comments below 🙂 As always, thanks for reading!
